Morrisville, VT — Vermont Public Power Supply Authority (“VPPSA”) and Encore Renewable Energy were joined by Congressman Peter Welch today to celebrate the completion of their 866 kW Trombley Hill Solar project. The project came online earlier this month and is the first developed under a partnership formed last year. This project is expected to produce approximately 1,500,000 kWh per year, enough to power approximately 208 homes. The project is the first of an initial portfolio of projects which add up to approximately 10 megawatts (MW) that VPPSA and Encore are working on together. The energy produced from Trombley Hill Solar will become part of Vermont’s renewable energy portfolio, benefiting nearly every electricity customer in the state
“The Trombley Hill Solar project is an example of what can be accomplished when utilities and private developers work together to find innovative solutions that maximize local, state, and federal government programs,” said Ken Nolan, General Manager of VPPSA. “We have proven that it is possible to provide local renewable energy in a manner that is economical and equitable for all.”

While all Vermont utilities buy a portion of Trombley Hill Solar’s output, Morrisville Water & Light gets the benefit of having the real electrons from the project serving the load of its customers,” said Craig Myotte, General Manager of Morrisville Water & Light.
