Steve joined the Encore team in 2023 as a Construction Project Manager. He brings years of experience both installing and managing solar projects. Steve moved to Vermont in 2009 right out of high school to attend Johnson State College where he received a BA in Psychology. On weekends and school vacations, he worked as a lift operator and ski instructor at Stowe and Smuggs which led to his first apprenticeship in the skilled trades as an Aerial Lift Technician at Stowe Mountain Resort. Being in the ski industry for close to a decade and growing up on a ski hill, Steve was constantly reminded of the real impact that climate change was having on the snow pack. In an attempt to join the fight to keep winter around, he changed career paths in 2016 and started installing residential solar. Over the course of 7 years in the residential and light commercial world, he grew from an entry level apprentice installer to a licensed Master Electrician and Construction Manager, overseeing all field operations at his previous employer. It was in these roles that Steve honed his managerial skills and ability to stay dynamic in an ever changing industry.
Outside of work Steve likes to spend time outdoors and be active with his family and dogs based on the season. In winter time, he spends time skiing (downhill, XC, backcountry touring), snowshoeing, or sledding. In spring and summer the family enjoys biking, hiking, swimming, & camping. In fall, Steve watches scary movies while indulging in pumpkin spice lattes and apple cider donuts (his season of rest).
3 Questions to get to know Steve
What does a sustainable future mean to you?
Outside of a clean energy lens, a ‘sustainable future’ to me means that everyone has the ability and right to pursue and explore their passions and interests and are able to live a fulfilling life that incorporates good health, positive growth, and meaningful relationships while maintaining a respectful work/life balance.
What’s your favorite way to spend time outside?
Two hobbies that I’d like to think I’ll never grow out of are skiing and biking. Other than that, I’m a huge outdoor enthusiast and am always ready for an impromptu camping, hiking, swimming, (insert outdoor activity here) trip at a moment’s notice.
What’s a great book or podcast you’ve engaged with recently?
I’m not much of a reader outside of the National Electric Code, but absolutely love a good RadioLab episode or True Crime pod. I also like to dabble in a variety of self help audiobooks while on long bike rides or drives. A couple that have had a lasting impact on my life are: “Atomic Habits” by James Clear, “Dare to Lead” by Brene Brown, and “Rich Dad Poor Dad” by Robert Kiyosaki.
