3 Questions to get to know Sean
What does a sustainable future mean to you?
To me, a sustainable future means energy independence and rapidly reducing fossil fuel use. DG solar helps us get there and solutions like dual-use agrivoltaics help us integrate and stack solutions for a number of environmental crises we’re facing. This is why I work at Encore; my personal vision for a sustainable future and Encore’s are incredibly aligned in terms of doing the work itself, grappling with problems and producing reliable solutions. A little cheesy? Yes. Genuinely true? Also yes.
What’s your favorite way to spend time outside?
My favorite way to spend time outside is to seek experiences that help me feel small and instill a sense of reverence for the natural world. I hike, sail, and garden– observing the patterns and wonders of a root system, the magic of wind, the gifts and abundance of fruit and veg. My favorite way to spend time outside is when I’m getting into that sweet state of gratitude, whatever I’m doing.
What’s a great book or podcast you’ve engaged with recently?
I can’t recommend enough the episode “Drinkable Rivers with Li An Phoa” on the Upstream Podcast. Her vision for the future is bold, clearly articulated, and grounded in mutualism; when waterways thrive, human beings do too. As we wade into the future, sustainable or not, returning to clear measures of what a better world can look like helps fill my well of hope.
