3 Questions to get to know Kit
What does a sustainable future mean to you?
With my geology background I continue to think about how we alter our environment without regard to natural systems and how it continues to only provide short term wins. To get to a future that is truly sustainable, I believe we need to change how we approach the natural world. We need to stop trying to control nature by asking “what can you do for us?” and instead approach it as a collaborator by asking “how do we do this together?” Our planet houses an abundance of sophisticated and impressive self regulating systems that work on many different timelines (millions of years, decades, months, days) and in order find sustainability we need to learn to live in concert with these systems.
What’s your favorite way to spend time outside?
I love exploring nature and collecting rocks and fossils. I’ve learned the hard way that I should never venture into nature without extra room in my pack or a bag to hold my finds (I have had to become very creative when I find myself in a bind). I also love swimming and I’m at home in the water.
What’s a great book or podcast you’ve engaged with recently?
I recently read A Happy Place by Emily Henry and loved it. 10/10 recommend. I would also suggest the podcast “We can do hard things” by Glennon Doyle, Abby Wambach, and Amanda Doyle. It’s both inspiring and feels like a hug.
