Nearly 500 U.S. counties, representing over 15% of all U.S. counties and growing, have now enacted moratoriums on renewable energy development. As local opposition fueled by misinformation continues to threaten our ability to reach 100% clean energy by 2035, it is increasingly important to develop and deploy strategies for mitigating these types of conflicts. In an increasingly polarized society, finding common ground and shared values can build bridges and a better foundation upon which the clean energy industry can flourish while allowing rural landowners to remain connected to the land and rural communities to benefit financially from the energy transition.
At RE+ 2024 in Anaheim, Encore VP of Policy & Communications Lauren Glickman presented a poster on how to communicate with communities in a way that acknowledges shared values and builds trust between clean energy and rural communities.
