Encore is participating in the Empowering Diverse Climate Talent (EDICT) internship for a third summer. We’re excited to welcome Savannah Doty, this year’s summer intern, who will be assisting the Business Development team. The EDICT Summer Internship Program is designed to provide underrepresented students with paid, full-time 10-week internship opportunities in the clean energy and climate tech sector, pairing them with host companies that are actively building a diverse team and an inclusive working environment.
Savannah grew up in Eastern Washington State but moved to Chicago for college. Such a move was a defining change in her life, where she realized that her passion for the environment and love of the outdoors were not isolated to her personal life. This discovery prompted her to double major in Public Policy and Environmental Studies.
The more that Savannah learned about how business-as-usual practices have created a world that is headed for disaster, the more compelled she felt to be someone working toward a sustainable future. Interning with Shedd Aquarium to reduce single-use waste in food service, and at the EPA in the Office of Enforcement and Compliance Assurance, taught her that there is no perfect solution to reducing climate change, but that most sustainable practices can only help so much without a clean energy grid. With that lesson in mind, she applied to the EDICT Internship Program. Savannah is now ecstatic to be working at Encore this summer to learn more about solar energy development and how to help build a cleaner energy grid.
